County of Yolo Health and Human Services Agency is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time Associate Staff Nurse/Staff Nurse position. The incumbent will be assigned to the mental health clinic and will assist the team in a variety of tasks related to conducting injection clinics, monitoring effectiveness of medication and noting side effects, working with the treatment team to evaluate clients' progress, assisting with medication refills/TARS and nursing line messages, vital signs, educating clients, coordinating treatment, timely documentation, and other duties as required. Training will be provided for all duties. The position is five (5) days a week, Monday-Friday during business hours and will be 40 hours per week. This position reports directly to the Supervising Staff Nurse and is based in Woodland with required occasional travel to Clinic sites in West Sacramento and Davis for clinic coverage. The incumbent will be placed at the level of Associate Staff Nurse or Staff Nurse depending on qualifications. Mental Health experience preferred. Associate Staff Nurse $30.89/hourly-$37.54/hourly $5,354.66/monthly-$6,508.61/monthly $64,256/annually-$78,103/annually Staff Nurse $33.89/hourly-$41.19/hourly $5,874.85/monthly-$7,140.92/monthly $70,498/annually-$85,691/annually Definition Under general supervision, provides a variety of professional nursing and patient care and treatment services to support the functions of the Public Health and Mental Health Departments, clinics and programs. Distinguishing Characteristics This is an entry-level professional position in the Staff Nurse classification series that requires a California State Registered Nurse license. Essential Functions Assignments may include, but are not limited to, the duties listed below: Administers general nursing care to patients in a clinic or community setting; performs nursing procedures such as administering medications or immunizations and proscribed medical treatments; observes patients' conditions and behaviors; reports significant changes to supervisor or physician; records nursing notes on patient chart; gives first aid as needed. Interviews and observes patients to ascertain medical history and current physical, psychological and emotional condition; reviews patients' records; takes vital signs, assesses current condition, records and reports all information. Assists physician in the treatment of patients, physical examinations, and other required basic nursing functions; prepares room and equipment for use by Physicians; assures sterilization and cleanliness of instruments and the environment; maintains regular charting of patient to describe interventions, medication and progress. Assembles treatment supplies, prepares patients for examination and assists in examination and treatment of patient; may provide direct patient treatment in accordance to department procedures; performs various tests and treatments; administers injections and other medications; collects, labels and logs specimens. Counsels patients, giving supportive care; may lead individual or group therapy sessions with patients; reads and evaluates written information such as admission reports, physicians' evaluations and diagnosis; evaluates problems presented by clients and helps to develop treatment plans; works with psychiatrist in evaluating new patients and developing treatment plans; monitors effectiveness of medications and patients' functioning capabilities. Instructs individual patients on follow-up care, birth control, communicable disease prevention, hygiene, general health care, and treatment of specific medical conditions in accordance with departmental guidelines; visits and observes patients in extended care facilities to discover and/or report on level of care; assists in providing crises intervention services to patients within after care clinics, acute care, or in the community. Maintains records, inventory and physical security of drugs and medical supplies; performs simple laboratory work, and prepares specimens for laboratory; obtains tests results, and notifies patients of test results following departmental guidelines. Performs Tuberculosis testing; works closely with Public Health Nurses on communicable disease control and treatment Performs other duties as required. Employment Standards Associate Staff Nurse Education: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing; and Experience: No experience required. Staff Nurse Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing; OR Education: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing; AND Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse providing patient care services or nursing in a hospital, clinic or mental health setting depending on the assignment. BOTH POSITIONS: Licenses: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Incumbents in this class are required to obtain, within six (6) weeks of hire, and maintain a current Basic Life Support Course Completion Card issued by the American Heart Association, or equivalent. Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Ability to: Administer treatments, medicines, and narcotics; ability to keep case records and prepare clear and concise reports; ability to supervise the work of assistants; ability to provide sympathetic nursing care; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in course of work; evaluate health problems and make recommendations based on observations.
