Job Description:
Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or
become permanent.
Under the general supervision of the Supervising Dentist, CF, and
the clinical direction of the Dentist, CF, the Dental Hygienist,
CF, provides preventative dental treatment to inmate patients with
oral health problems. The Dental Hygienist provides education to
inmate patients with regards to good oral hygiene, promotes good
dental health, and counsels inmate patients regarding good
nutrition and its impact on oral health. The Dental Hygienist
follows security procedures at all times including those regarding
the security of dental instruments. The Dental Hygienist, CF, is
knowledgeable with and follows the Inmate Dental Services Program,
Policies and Procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Dental
Hygienist as determined by the Committee on Dental Auxiliaries
(COMDA) of the Dental Board of California. (Applicants who are in
the process of securing approval of their qualifications by COMDA
will be admitted to the examination, but they must possess all
legal requirements as determined by COMDA before they will be
eligible for appointment.)

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit a background
investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and
Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department
annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with
foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of
U.S. course/degree equivalency. Foreign education credential
evaluation services can be found at NACES - National Association of
Credential Evaluation Services.
